Aqidah (Belief)
Without correct Aqidah, no act of worship is accepted, no matter how much worship is performed. Therefore, after faith (Iman), the purity of Aqidah is of the utmost importance.
The Importance of Aqidah
Aqidah is the foundation of Islam, providing guidance for a Muslim’s beliefs, thoughts, and actions. In Islam, Aqidah is not merely a topic, but the root of the religion, upon which all aspects of a Muslim’s life are built. Without correct Aqidah, no worship or action will be accepted by Allah, no matter how much one practices.
Every Prophet, peace be upon them, first invited their people to the belief in Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and taught them the pure Aqidah free of shirk (associating partners with Allah). The Prophet (ﷺ) spent the first thirteen years of his life in Makkah focusing solely on Aqidah, and only then were other aspects of Islam revealed gradually. This shows that for the success of a Muslim life, Aqidah is the first and most important matter.
Incorrect Aqidah leads people away from the truth and into confusion. The root cause of innovation (Bid’ah), superstitions, and false beliefs is the lack of correct Aqidah. No matter how many good deeds a person performs, if the foundation of their belief is shaky, they will not attain success in the Hereafter. It is the duty of every Muslim to purify their Aqidah according to the Qur’an and authentic Hadith.
Correct Aqidah not only ensures the purity of one’s actions but also purifies the heart and paves the way for achieving Allah’s pleasure. Therefore, we should strive to acquire correct Aqidah, stay away from false beliefs, and invite others to adopt the correct Aqidah. After Iman, the most important aspect in Islam is having a correct Aqidah because our success in this world and the Hereafter depends on it.
